1991
  • Foundation: ECARDS-Nepal was established on 30 Jestha 2048 BS (14 June 1991) as a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-sectarian social development organization.
  • Vision: Aimed to foster sustainable community development through local leadership and organizations.
  • Focus: Initial projects centered on agriculture, natural resource management, and rural community development.
2000
  • Natural Resource Management: Active involvement in community forestry, sustainable agriculture, and income generation projects during this period.
  • Expansion: Extended coverage to various ecological belts of Nepal, including Terai, Hills, and Mountains.
  • Community Building: Strengthened self-help groups (SHGs) and cooperatives as part of capacity-building initiatives.
2010
  • Innovation: Implemented projects like Organic Pest Management in peri-urban agriculture and Goat Fattening Technology using legume fodder shrubs.
  • Sanitation: Launched major Open Defecation Free (ODF) campaigns in Siraha and other districts, achieving significant milestones.
  • Livelihoods: Conducted skill-oriented training programs, helping communities improve income generation and reduce poverty.
2020
  • COVID-19 Response: Distributed hygiene kits, vegetable seeds, and health supplements to vulnerable families, supporting over 1,000 high-risk individuals.
  • Climate Action: Enhanced Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA) and Community Adaptation Plans of Action (CAPA), reaching over 650 communities.
  • Diversification: Implemented conservation farming in Khotang and Okhaldhunga, and developed water management systems in Kathmandu.
2023
  • Global Partnerships: Collaborated with UNEP to integrate climate adaptation priorities into local planning policies and conducted extensive training programs.
  • Strategic Planning: Facilitated local adaptation plans in Bhojpur and Kavre districts, focusing on gender-responsive and climate-resilient strategies.
  • National Impact: Projects spanned all seven provinces, solidifying ECARDS-Nepal's role as a leading organization in sustainable development.
