1. Community Health Support Response to COVID-19 – Dolakha (2020)
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ECARDS-Nepal implemented a Community Health Support Response project in Dolakha to assist vulnerable communities affected by the crisis. The project provided essential hygiene kits and health support to 918 families, ensuring that they had access to proper sanitation and safety measures during the pandemic. Alongside hygiene kits, ECARDS-Nepal distributed vegetable seeds to help families establish home gardens, promoting food security at a time when supply chains were disrupted. These interventions helped families reduce their dependency on external food supplies and improved household nutrition.
Another major component of the project was health and vitamin support for 160 vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions. The organization also extended support to 1,000 "golden women"—women in particularly high-risk categories—by providing them with essential health supplements and protective equipment. These interventions aimed to strengthen community resilience and reduce the health impact of the pandemic in rural areas where access to healthcare was limited.
The project also focused on raising awareness about COVID-19 through community outreach programs. ECARDS-Nepal worked with local leaders, health officials, and volunteers to conduct training sessions on proper hygiene practices, mask usage, and social distancing measures. These efforts significantly contributed to slowing the spread of the virus and empowering communities to take preventive actions on their own. The project was a key example of ECARDS-Nepal’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging crises.
2. Humanitarian Response for Value Chain Beneficiaries – Lalitpur (2019)
Following economic disruptions that affected farming and trade communities in Lalitpur, ECARDS-Nepal initiated a humanitarian relief project to support 620 families. The project aimed to provide immediate relief in the form of food supplies, vegetable seeds, and hygiene kits to help families regain their stability. Many of these families relied on agriculture for their livelihood, so the provision of high-quality seeds ensured that they could quickly re-establish their farming activities.
Beyond direct relief, ECARDS-Nepal supported the rehabilitation of the water supply system in affected areas. Many rural households lacked access to clean drinking water, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. The project repaired damaged water infrastructure, improving access to safe and clean water for hundreds of families. The initiative also provided technical support for health post building construction, ensuring that local communities had access to better healthcare services in the long run.
Recognizing the importance of education and mental well-being for children affected by the crisis, ECARDS-Nepal distributed sports and educational materials to schools in the program area. This ensured that children could continue their education despite economic hardships faced by their families. By addressing both short-term humanitarian needs and long-term community resilience, ECARDS-Nepal’s intervention made a significant impact in restoring stability to the affected communities.
